This is a coming together of a group of friends linked by their enthusiasm for travel, the outdoors, and an occupation that allows for extended trips.  The question I have heard most since we chose Skagway, Alaska is ‘Why Skagway, Alaska?’  Well the conversation began between myself and Suzanne when we were on a run (Jaimee was there too, and we thought we had lost her on the trail, but that’s another story). I told her Scott and I were interested in biking across Europe and she mentioned that Christopher and herself were interested in Chile. Then we thought about cost and wouldn’t it be fun to go somewhere we could start from our own front door. Across Canada was tossed around until we discovered that 2 months wouldn’t allow for the full enjoyment of the trip.  Then during  a game of Settlers of Catan ( a must if you haven’t yet played) it was suggested that we bike north towards the Yukon. It was from that point that much research was done, thanks in large part to Scott, and a rough travel plan was put into place. This has been pretty much set since February and now our journey is about to begin in a couple of days.  I look forward to the serenity of the landscape, the mental games we play when we are pushing ourselves to our limits, and of course, tasting all the different flavours of ice cream all the towns have to offer on the way.
